The 12th Annual Reunion/AGM ‑ October 4th

The Chairman, John Hayns, welcomed Mr Webster, the Headteacher, together with 68 Members, especially Anne Lewis and John Bradshaw but sadly not their late father, Norman Bradshaw / Brute who had attended all previous meetings of the Association and given us such wonderful support. Mr. Webster deserved our thanks for conducting a tour of the School and our admiration for coping with over 40 of us! A special welcome was also given to the 12 strong group of 1971ers, led by Sue Saville, who reduced the average age considerably and gave us hope that there will be younger people to carry on the Association. A surprise visitor was Pinky Green on a short visit from New Zealand and persuaded to attend the AGM by Libby Stone. 47 Members sent apologies for absence, including Peter Weller, a stalwart supporter not fit enough to attend‑-but Esme was there, helping out as usual.

It was hoped that there would be more 'volunteers' next Summer.

The Committee had with some reluctance decided not to arrange the observance of the two minutes silence at the Memorial Gates this year, partly because of difficulty with the School caretaker, but also because only Committee members attended last year. However, Robert

Miller would arrange for a wreath to be placed there as usual.

He hoped that Peter would soon be well enough to take up the job again.

Headteacher's Report

Mr Webster warmly welcomed everyone to The Ashcombe School and hoped the old school photographs displayed would reassure everyone they were not forgotten. He referred to the tributes paid at Norman Bradshaw's funeral by "older" students who remembered him as if it were yesterday. Mr. Webster assured members that the gifts made last year are in the Music...
